Now, I want to write about our son-in-law Taggart Barron. He is such a wonderful man, as are all our sons-in-law. What I want to record today is what a marvelous missionary he is. I know no one like him. Here is an example.

He has been coaching Boston’s little guys’ basketball team. The Baptist Church sponsors the league. Scriptures are pasted out at the games, prizes given for memorizing them, and “spiritual thoughts” or inspirational stories are told. There are cheerleading girls there, but they do not cheer for one team over another, but lead cheers like, “Give me a J…Give me an E… Give me an S… Give me an E… Give me an S” Get the picture? Tag’s team has four Mormon boys on it and four that are not. When the season began, Tag invited all the team members and their parents over to his house. He told them right away that he was a Mormon. He handed out Books of Mormon, Pass-a-long Cards and even some information on Provident Living. When the scriptures are passed out at games, Tag reads them and bears his testimony about them.

Saturday was their last game. Tag went over to the other team that was playing them and talked with their coach. They agreed to have one time period when they would take out their best players and encourage the players that had not scored at all that season to be able to score. Tag said it was so exciting, not only for the boys but also for their parents. He said he did not know why he had not done that before. Tonight he and Boston will go to the awards banquet where it is reported that the Baptists will try to convert them. That is okay. Tag said that he is going to call each of the non-members’ parents and thank them for their support and just ask them if there is anything else they would like to know about our church. Tag’s mind is always working. Missionary work is one of the reasons their family puts on a live nativity every Christmas. The whole neighborhood is invited and many are even participating now. The kids invited their classes at school. This last year they have over 200 people come.

When Tag travels, he takes Books of Mormon with him. Once he knew there would be some men at a meeting that were from Italy where he served his mission. He took Books of Mormon in Italian for them. I am so glad that they live in the mission field. He inspires me to open my mouth.
